Storage is more and more popular and is used more and more widely in China; many companies adopt warehouse and delivery center (DC); some third-party logistic companies set warehouse and DC in airport, dock and protecting tax district. For many companies have its own industrial character, different situation and circulation of goods should choose different storage; appropriate storage would bring some unexpected benefit, and then you can save large part of investing and operating cost.。
There are several kinds of comparison and analysis of storage in the follow; all these are personal experience of author; the author contacts with many logistic companies, so he wants to intercourse with some experts who engage in logistics. At the same time, it also brings revelation and help to other logistic colleagues. 。
Storage system means shelves’ arrangement and structure warehouse and delivering device, warehouse management software and device in the whole. Here, we just discuss the arrangement of shelves and delivering device. (Now, we do not discuss the management software, you can decide it according to the situation of clients.)
There are several familiar storage systems in the following: Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) system, Derive-In shelf system, Selective shelf system, Double Deep shelf system; there are also some less frequently method, such as Push & Pull, Gravity and Mobile. Because the earlier investment cost and later maintain cost are very high, so we do not discuss it; and AS&RS system does not discuss auto-storage system。
In order to compare, we set some parameters on the same base。

VAN system: utilize the space of warehouse efficiently (smallest aisle), at the same time, it can guarantee good speed to fetch goods and choose conditions (each salver can save, fetch and choose freely). Each device of this kind of warehouse system can save and fetch goods at 30~35 salvers per hour; it applies to various field, especially in many species or save and fetch goods quickly, DC for example. If the warehouse is larger, the in-out mount will be larger, and then the increase of the device is not very much, so it decreases the cost oppositely. In recent years, this kind of warehouse is more and more popular, especially large warehouse or DC.
Drive-In system: Utilizing the space of warehouse efficiently (large density on shelf arrangement), but can not satisfy the saving and fetching speed and demand of choice. Every salver can not save, fetch and choose freely, so it is suitable for single industry. It is very slow to fetch goods with this kind of warehouse system, 10~12 salvers per hour; if the in-out amounts are increased, you should add more device, and then the cost will increase quickly. This kind of system is used in a few of industries.
Selective system: this kind of warehouse is the widest; it can not utilize the space of warehouse effectively, but it can guarantee good speed to fetch goods and choose conditions (each salver can save, fetch and choose freely). This kind of warehouse can save and fetch goods at 15~18 salvers per hour; it applies to various fields. If the warehouse is larger, the in-out mount will be larger, and then the increase of the device is very large, so the cost increases; but it is very flexible, and the third-party logistic warehouse usually use this system (for the clients will change).
Double Deep system: it is complex body between Selective and Drive-In system; it not only can utilize the space of warehouse efficiently (large density on shelf arrangement), but also can guarantee good speed to fetch goods and choose conditions (Every two salvers can save, fetch and choose freely). Each device of this kind of warehouse system can save and fetch goods at 12~15 salvers per hour; it is very flexible; if the warehouse is larger, the in-out mount will be larger, and then the increase of the device is not very much, so its cost is not change basically. In recent years, this kind of warehouse is more and more popular, without industrial limit, but not too much goods species.
In a word, each kind of warehouse has its own character, so each company can choose the best appropriate and proportion between performance and price according to its own character. Of course, each system is not independent completely, so you can integrate together. (According to different logistic method, in-out speed, goods species and in-out amount to choose)
